Simply put: your network is your net worth.
Ever heard the saying before?
Another way of putting it: Who you know is important.
I definitely believe this is true.
But on a MUCH deeper level, I believe “your network is your net worth” means that you’re only as good as the people you surround yourself with.
That’s why relationships are so important.
You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. ~ Jim Rohn
That’s why I’ve always invested a significant amount of time into building relationships.
How have I done that?
Well, I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted Entrepreneurs On Fire to look like: a daily podcast interviewing an inspiring entrepreneur every single day.
In order to connect with the movers and shakers in my industry, I made a ‘power list’ and started reaching out to them.
When I contacted them I was clear about the value I was looking to add to their world, how I could help amplify their message, and honestly, I kept it simple.
I also followed them on social media, liked their posts, commented, and shared. I became a follower of value…
To recap: Building relationships DEFINITELY requires work.
It will also require follow up.
And it might require you attending a conference or meet up to look them in the eye and introduce yourself one-on-one (all the while sweating bullets!)
It might require you to “make the ask” to a friend who you know has a connection to that person.
It might require you doing something unique and 100% selfless in order to get their attention.
PROVIDE VALUE.
Again, it all starts with your ‘power list’, a follow on social media, and simply reaching out and starting the conversation.
Build your network! Swallow your EGO! This is what separates the have from the have not’s.
